Here are answers to the most common questions we receive about how CE hours are calculated and tracked.
In many US states (including those that accept courses approve by the PACE program of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards FCLB), a CE hour is 50 minutes. In some states, however, a CE hour is calculated as a 60min hour.
It's important that you know how this is calculated in each state you're licensed in.
In the state of Texas, each CE hour consists of 50 minutes spent in an education session. In order to recieve time for an in-person education session or course, you must be present in the classroom while instruction is taking place.
While many US states do now accept virtual learning in some format for CE credit, the guidelines regarding this question vary from state-to-state.
In the state of Texas, you can earn up to 10 CE hours per year through online, self-paced course offerings. If you attend virtually through a live stream or webinar format, Texas will allow you to count those hours as "live," allowing for the same number of hours you can earn through in-person attendance.
In order for the course hours to count as "live," you must be present and taking part in the virtual course while it is taking place and the course sponsor must have a means for tracking and verifying your time spent in the virtual classroom.
For any in-person event hosted or sponsored by Texas Chiropractic College, you will be required to sign-in and/or sign-out through one of two methods:
Electronically - such as when attending a conference, you'll be required to have your badge, name tag or unique QR code scanned into the classroom when you enter a session. If you leave the session early, you will be scanned out. If you remain for the entire session, you will simply leave and scan into the next session.
On Paper - for small workshops and courses with fewer than 50 participants, you may be required to sign a paper sign-in sheet and provide indicate the time you enter the room. At the end of each day, you'll be required to sign a paper sign-out sheet and indicate the time you are leaving the room. All of this is done with the supervision of a proctor or room monitor.

In order for you to receive CE credit for time spent in a live stream, webinar or virtual classroom, the course platform must provide a report that shows detailed calculations of the time you spent in the virtual classroom.
For live stream events and webinars hosted by or sponsored by Texas Chiropractic College, we can pull a detailed CSV file that shows the exact number of minutes each attendee spent in the virtual classroom.
CE hours are then calculated based upon the 50min hour calculation for Texas and the totals are recorded accordingly.
It is the responsibility of the attendee to insure proper bandwidth, internet access and appropriate hardware and software requirements are met prior to joining a live stream virtual event.
For online, self-paced course offerings that are asynchronous, the College utilizes advanced tracking technology that provides detailed reports of your IP address and all actions taken within the course platform. Each course is also built with safeguards to insure compliance and time spent, such as requirements for videos to be played to 100% completion and the requirement to pass all quizzes with a score of 70% or higher for successful course completion.
When it comes to calculating hours, several factors are taken into consideration. CE hours are calculated based upon the following:
As an accredited provider of continuing education, Texas Chiropractic College is required to comply with the guildelines and standards set forth by each individual state licensing board we work with.
When we provide a roster, verification of hours or a CE credential, the hours listed on the document must be calculated based upon qualitative evidence of class attendance.
So while we encourage you to visit our vendors in the expo and visit with friends and fellow attendees, when it's time to earn your CE hours, you must be in the classroom while the session is taking place.
